(November 18, 2016) Effective November 29, 2016, citizens and nationals of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) who have been issued a 10-year B-1, B-2 or B1/B2 (tourist/business) visa will also be required to apply for Electronic Visa Update System (EVUS) approval prior to traveling to the United States. The new regulation is being implemented by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

EVUS is an online, web-based system that determines the eligibility of visitors with a 10-year visa to travel to the United States. Once approved, EVUS is valid for two years or until the traveler’s visa or passport expires, whichever comes first.

Nationals of Hong Kong, Macau and PRC nationals holding any other type of visa, including one- or five-year B1/B2 visas, are exempt from the new regulation.

There will be no exception to the November 29 date, so it is advised that customers apply for EVUS well in advance of their planned travel. Failure to have a valid and approved application on file could lead to denied travel.

Further details
Travelers can acquire more information and apply for an EVUS online at: http://www.cbp.gov/EVUS.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has set up a 24/7 call center (+1 (202) 325 0180) staffed with Mandarin speakers that can be used by travelers to answer EVUS questions.
